WIRE Award Winners
We’re delighted to have achieved the WIRE Award: Widening Inclusion in Religious Education.
This involved three elements:
- our special whole-school Journey Day about world religions last October,
- training for our RE lead Mrs Bennett,
- and a visit to a Mosque in Swindon, by Bumblebees, Dragonflies and Roe Deer classes in May (these classes have all been focusing on Islam in their RE lessons this year).
The WIRE award recognises our commitment to bringing World Religions to life at Preshute, which we value as an important area of our curriculum. We are really proud of how engaged and respectful the children have been, when learning about different religions.
Our former head teacher Celia Hicks, now representing the Wiltshire Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education (SACRE), visited on Friday 18th July to present us the award in assembly. Mrs Hicks commented that only around a dozen schools in the county have earned this award so far, so we are very proud to be one of them! She mentioned to the children that as they progress to their future schools, universities and jobs one day, they will meet lots of different people in their lives, so it is wonderful that they are already developing a good awareness and understanding of cultures and religions, that may be different to their own.
Thank you to Mrs Bennett for arranging things behind the scenes, and thank you to the parent volunteers enabling the Mosque trip to take place. Next year we are already planning a Judaism workshop, bringing an expert from the Bristol Synagogue to visit us, to keep up our engaging learning about different religions!
